🧠 How to respond to your emotions without emptying the cupboards?
Marie-Myriem MOKRANIShare
You come home after a hard day.
Heavy heart, full head.
And without really knowing why... you open the closet.
Chocolate. Bread. Cookies.
It's not really hunger. But you can't help it.
And then?
Guilt. Shame. The feeling of having lost control. Again.
You know what?
You don't have a willpower problem.
You simply have an emotion that has not been heard.
Eating to calm an emotion is a survival strategy . A way to soothe, to escape, to satisfy.
But this is not a sustainable solution.
Emotions don't go away because we ignore them.
They come back. Sometimes even stronger.
And food can never cure what your heart is trying to express.
So what to do?
Start by recognizing the emotion. Give it a name.
Sadness? Boredom? Stress? Loneliness? Fatigue?
Then ask yourself: “What do I really need, right now?”
Maybe a quiet moment. A hug. A breath.
Or even… write down what you feel.
