Why your body is not your enemy (even when you're compulsive)
Marie-Myriem MOKRANIShare
Perhaps you know this feeling: after a compulsion, you resent your body. You feel like it has “betrayed” you, that it is against you.
But the truth is, your body is not your enemy .
Quite the opposite: it protects you.
💡 Understanding compulsions
Compulsions are not a lack of willpower or a personal weakness. They are the natural consequence of three main things:
-
Too many restrictions (your body compensates for what you take away from it)
-
Too much guilt (which fuels frustration and control)
-
Not enough energy (your body demands what it needs to function)
Your body isn't trying to trap you. It's just screaming:
👉 “I need security.”
👉 “I need energy.”
🌿 What if you listened to it differently?
To break the vicious cycle, it is essential to change your perspective on your body:
✔️ Learn to eat regularly (your body doesn't like unpredictability).
✔️ Welcome your emotions, even the most difficult ones, without judgment .
✔️ Break the “compulsion → punishment → restriction” cycle which only makes the situation worse.
✨ Your body wants what's best for you
Remember: your body isn't against you. Every compulsion is a message, a signal. The more you learn to listen to it gently, the more it will soothe you.
