🌸 Apaiser ses compulsions alimentaires sans régime : la méthode bienveillante

🌸 Calming food cravings without dieting: the gentle method

Marie-Myriem MOKRANI

💬 Introduction

You might think that you need “more control” to calm your food cravings…
In reality, it is often this control that fuels them.

In this article, I explain why diets perpetuate the vicious cycle of compulsions — and most importantly, how to break free from it with a gentle, humane, and sustainable approach 🌿

1. Why diets worsen food cravings

Every diet pushes you to disconnect from your body : you eat according to external rules (times, quantities, “good” or “bad” foods) rather than listening to your needs.
Result 👉 frustration → restriction → loss of control → guilt → new restriction.

This is what we call the restriction-compulsion cycle 🔄

To find peace with your diet, you must first break with the diet mentality , even in its disguised forms (“rebalancing”, “detox”, “sugar-free phase”...).

🧭 2. Reconnecting with your internal signals: the foundation of food freedom

Your body sends you messages every day:
🍽️ hungry,
😴 satiety,
💫 desire,
⚡ energy,
💧 emotions...

But after years of regimes, these signals become blurred.
That's why the first step is to relearn how to listen to and trust your body.

Practical exercise:
Before each meal, take 30 seconds to ask yourself:

  • Am I physically hungry 🍎 or emotionally hungry 💔?

  • If it's emotional, what do I really need? (rest 💤, comfort 🤗, gentleness ☕, calm 🕊️)

Little by little, you will rebuild the mind-body connection that diets had broken.

💛 3. Self-compassion: the engine of lasting change

Most people suffering from compulsions judge themselves harshly after each "lapse".
But 🧠 shame feeds the compulsion : the more you feel guilty, the more you eat to relieve yourself.

🌸 Remember: you don't need to be perfect to succeed.
You need to be kind to yourself.

💬 Speak to yourself as you would speak to a friend: with kindness, understanding and patience.
It is this self-compassion that will help you break free from the restriction-compulsion pattern , permanently.

🪷 4. The compassionate method I use with my patients

In my coaching sessions, I combine:
🧠 Psycho-nutrition → to understand the link between emotions and food.
🍽️ Body reconnection → to learn to listen to your internal signals.
🖋️ Therapeutic writing → to release guilt and reconnect with the pleasure of eating.

This approach allows you to:
🌿 to break free from compulsions permanently,
💬 to find inner peace,
🍓 and relearn how to nourish yourself with pleasure and serenity.
